Happy November!

It's been quite awhile, hasn't it? My apologies for the slow down in posting... I don't really have any excuses other than I've been so overwhelmed with school work, swimming, and college applications that blogging hasn't exactly been at the top of my priority list.

All of that aside, I would like to celebrate my return (after three weeks) to Marvelous Bear with a list of things I believe everyone should have in their closet. Well, every girl that is.

1. A white v-neck
You can dress it up or down, and wear it with just about anything. It's so classy and versatile, and you can find them for good, low prices just about anywhere. I have one that I wear all the time. I prefer them a little loose, as form-fitting clothing is not nice on days when you just feel like chilling. My pick is a white v-neck I got from Victoria's Secret Pink. When I bought it, it was two for twenty, so I picked up a blue one as well. However, for the past few weeks they have had their v-necks and other tanks at 4 for 25 dollars, which I do believe is quite a bargain. Anyway, my white v-neck is soft and cuddly. It's for sure necessary in any closet.

2. Jeans that are so comfortable they're like sweats
They may be new, they may be old, but let's face it: everyone needs one pair of to-die-for, uber comfy jeans. That's really all that needs to be said here. My go-to jeans are currently a pair of Citizens of Humanity I got a couple weeks ago at Nordstrom. A little pricey, yes, but so worth the splurge. The denim is incredibly soft, and they're a classic boot cut. Plus I love how the rise isn't super low. Mega low-rise jeans definitely cannot translate in any way, shape, or form into sweats.

3. A little black dress
Yes, yes, the classic LBD. Need I even explain why it's a necessity? Well first of all, I can guarantee that there will be an occasion at some point in time where you will need to wear a black dress. And what better a dress than something small, slinky, and cute? Plus, an LBD can be paired with nearly any shoe. How fantastic! My little black dress is a strapless, banded style from BCBG Max Azria. I simply adore it. I got it for prom last year, but it was a good investment as I know I will use it loads of times in the future.

4. Sexy ass stilettos
Every woman needs a pair of shoes that when put on make's her feel like Megan Fox. Or Jessica Alba. Or whatever vixen you choose to channel. Maybe they won't get very much use on a day-to-day basis, but for going out occasions, bring out the sex appeal. But keep it classy and stick with sexy shoes. Nobody wants to see your muffin top and your boobs hanging out. I have loads of pairs of what I call sexy stilettos. They range from black guess stilettos to magenta BCBG pumps to my gold Michael Kors cage shoes.

5. A pair of super worn in, old, loved to death kicks
These are the sneakers you got two, three, four or more years ago. You have worn them so much the colors are faded, they're probably stained, and maybe they're even being held together by safety pins and duct tape (helllo, my Chuck Taylors). Regardless of their state, all girls need a pair of cool kicks to wear with whatever. Seriously. You can't go through life without sneakers.
Mine, besides my black Converse low tops, are my white vans I recently bought. Although new, I can already feel a strong bond forming with them. They're so crisp and clean! Of course, I also have Nikes, classic checkered Vans, more Converse, white Ked-like shoes, Ed Hardy kicks, and many, many more. I love sneakers.

Of course, the list of necessary things could go on and on, but as it is getting late, I will continue the list at some later point in time. Look out for the second installment!

I'm already anticipating the turkey,

xxxx

  1. Nice Post and welcome back! While I agree witht the need for comfy "kicks", I will argue against the need to keep the black keds that have the heels duct taped...no support leads to a sore back and the rough duct tape leads to sore heels leading to the need to wear slippers to school and you know how I feel about that!!

  2. I wore slippers to the grocery store today...guess that wasn't very fashion forward. I agree with your comfy assessment of jeans and tshirts! Nice job Bear!

  3. I am interested to hear about what is in your closet. I can see why you are always so well turned out! The one thing you did not mention is "pretty clothes" i.e. feminine, becoming colors that say "I enjoy being a girl!"

I recall that about 40 some years ago I swore I would never wear pants, except around the house and for gardening! Times change, styles change, and now I have only one dress (which I never have occasion to wear!) and I had to give up all of my pretty shoes with heels - sob, sob.

I do love your LBD, and can imagine how great you would look in my favorite LBD many years ago. It has a sleeveless bias cut top, d bit draped at the neckline, fitted right down to the hipbone where there was a series of pleated flounces right down to just below the knee. I love to think of all the good times I had in that dress, and of how the folounces flipped when we danced! I had other really pretty dresses, all in becoming colors and boasting nice dressmaker touches. I think one reason they have gone out of style is that the garment industry now turns out simple garments which require a lot less labor.

Anyway, my own closet is a polyglot of blouses, tops, pants and jackets. All pretty colorful!
